Media Silence Amid Genocide: Palestinian Journalists Call for Urgent Global Coverage

The Palestinian Journalists’ Bloc has issued a desperate appeal to global media outlets, urging them to break their silence and intensify coverage of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. With the Israeli-imposed siege now weaponising hunger, the Bloc warned that the deliberate starvation of civilians constitutes a crime of genocide.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Bloc condemned the Israeli narrative claiming that humanitarian aid is entering Gaza, calling it a “deceptive and calculated lie” aimed at masking the death of children, women, and the elderly from hunger and thirst. Aid distribution points, it said, have become deadly ambushes, where desperate civilians are slaughtered while seeking food.

More than 800 civilians have reportedly been killed near these distribution centres, victims of Israeli fire as they attempted to survive amidst collapsing food systems. The Bloc stressed that this chilling reality is being enabled not only by Israeli aggression, but also by the shameful complicity of the international media and community through their silence.

Calling on all professional and independent media, the Bloc demanded urgent field reporting, human stories from Gaza, and direct exposure of Israel’s starvation policy. It further urged human rights groups to document the targeting of civilians as they queue for aid.

The World Food Programme has echoed these warnings, stating that Gaza’s food systems are “on the brink of collapse,” and that most families can barely secure one meal per day. It joined the growing international chorus calling for an immediate ceasefire, stating this is the only way to ensure the safe and large-scale delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance.

As the world watches, the question remains: how many more must die before truth takes precedence over political convenience?
