A coalition of 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, has issued a rare and forceful condemnation of Israel’s policies in Gaza, accusing it of deliberately starving civilians and obstructing life-saving aid. The joint statement, released by the British government, demands an immediate end to the siege and the indiscriminate war that has devastated the enclave since October.
The countries warned that Israel’s actions, particularly the use of starvation and forced displacement as weapons, amount to grave violations of international humanitarian law. The statement firmly rejected any attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied Palestinian territories, calling such measures unacceptable and illegal.
In what observers have described as one of the most unified global rebukes to date, the signatories denounced the killing of over 800 Palestinians while they were trying to access food aid, describing the scenes as horrifying. They also criticised Israel’s so-called “humanitarian zones” as a smokescreen for population displacement, rather than a genuine effort to protect civilians.
With Gaza’s humanitarian crisis spiralling to what the statement called “unprecedented levels,” the group urged Israel to immediately lift all restrictions on humanitarian access and allow aid agencies to function freely. They also voiced support for mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to achieve a lasting ceasefire.
As Gaza's population continues to starve under siege, this international warning stands as a stark reminder: the world is watching, and silence is no longer an option.
