The Palestinian Health Ministry has urgently condemned the ongoing detention of Dr. Marwan al-Hams by Israeli forces, who have held him for over ten days without any communication or information about his health or whereabouts. This silence deepens fears over his safety amid a broader pattern of targeting Palestinian medical workers.
According to the ministry, more than 360 Palestinian healthcare professionals remain imprisoned, subjected to enforced disappearances and mistreatment during arrest and interrogation. These actions blatantly violate international humanitarian law and undermine the vital role of medical staff in a region already ravaged by conflict.
The ministry called on global bodies, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urgently intervene and exert pressure on Israel to end these abuses. It stressed that the deliberate detention and harassment of medical personnel not only threaten their lives but also violate the protections guaranteed under the Geneva Conventions.
This systematic campaign against Palestinian healthcare workers reflects a broader strategy to weaken Palestinian resilience and access to essential care, demanding immediate and decisive international response.
