Israel’s War on Gaza Wipes Out an Entire Generation’s Education

Gaza’s education system has been reduced to rubble, with Palestinian authorities reporting an unprecedented loss of life and infrastructure since the Israeli assault began in October 2023. More than 16,600 students have been killed, the vast majority in Gaza, alongside nearly 1,000 teachers and staff, while over 26,000 students have been wounded.

Every university in Gaza has been destroyed or severely damaged, halting higher education completely. Over 80 percent of schools are now unfit for use, many having served as shelters for displaced families before being bombed. With roughly 90,000 university students unable to continue their studies, an entire generation has seen its future suspended.

For Palestinians, this is not just an attack on buildings but on the very foundation of their society. The destruction of schools and universities erases opportunities, silences aspirations, and deepens the collective trauma of a population already enduring relentless displacement and hunger. In Gaza, education has become another casualty of a war designed to extinguish hope.
