An international rights group has accused Israel of systematically shutting down investigations into alleged war crimes in Gaza, leaving thousands of Palestinian victims without justice. According to Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), nearly 90% of Israeli military probes launched since October 2023 have ended without charges or remain unresolved, despite mounting evidence of massacres and indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
Among the cited atrocities is the February 2024 killing of 112 Palestinians queuing for flour in Gaza, and the May 2024 bombing of a Rafah refugee camp that claimed 45 lives. Despite these high-profile cases, only one conviction has emerged, a soldier jailed for seven months for assaulting detainees, highlighting what AOAV calls a “clear pattern of impunity.”
The watchdog also condemned Israel’s swift internal review of an April 2024 airstrike that killed seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen, questioning its credibility. As of mid-2025, 46 cases remain open, including recent killings of Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid.
Rights advocates warn that Israel’s opaque and ineffective investigations demonstrate the futility of relying on domestic mechanisms. With civilian deaths in Gaza surpassing catastrophic levels, AOAV has urged international intervention, insisting that only external judicial action can deliver justice for Palestinian victims of this ongoing assault.
