Al-Shifa Faces Collapse as Gaza’s Lifeline Buckles Under Siege

The main hospital in Gaza City is on the edge of collapse as relentless bombardment and crippling shortages leave doctors warning of an impending health catastrophe. Al-Shifa Medical Complex, already overwhelmed with hundreds of patients far beyond its capacity, is struggling to cope with the influx of casualties, many suffering from severe burns and life-threatening injuries.

Inside the facility, corridors are crowded with the wounded, while the morgue has exceeded its limits. With medicines, operating rooms, and critical supplies running out, doctors are forced to decide who can be treated and who must wait. The threat of fuel depletion hangs over the hospital like a death sentence, with generators powering intensive care units and life-support machines at risk of shutting down.

For tens of thousands who depend on Al-Shifa, its closure would mean catastrophe. Families already displaced and injured would be left without care, and medical staff are working under impossible conditions as they try to hold the line against collapse. With no guarantee of protection or supplies, the survival of Gaza’s largest hospital has become as fragile as the lives it struggles to save.
