Thousands Still Behind Bars: Palestinians Call for Justice as Detentions Persist

Despite the recent prisoner exchange under the ceasefire deal, more than ten thousand Palestinians remain locked away in Israeli prisons, a number that starkly exposes the limits of the truce and the enduring machinery of oppression. Families who celebrated the return of loved ones are now left waiting for others who may never come home, as Israel continues to hold thousands without charge or trial.

Among the detainees are hundreds of children, many taken from their beds during midnight raids in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Testimonies describe harsh interrogations, solitary confinement, and the denial of basic rights, all under a system that has long ignored international law. The deaths of dozens of detainees in the past two years point to a pattern of medical neglect and abuse that remains unaccounted for.

For many Palestinians, these detentions are seen not as a matter of security but of control, a deliberate attempt to silence resistance and break families apart. Human rights advocates continue to demand accountability, urging global institutions to intervene and uphold the principles of justice that are so often invoked yet rarely applied.
