Israeli court rules 26 months and a fine against the prisoner Shtayyeh

The Israeli court yesterday issued the final judgment against the Palestinian prisoner Amir Shtayyeh from the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank.

The court ruled to jail Shtayyeh for 26 months in prison and a fine of 4,000 shekels, in addition to an 18-month stay of execution, according to Family sources.

It should be noted that the prisoner Shtayyeh was arrested three consecutive times, the first of which was in 2013 when he won membership in the Student Union Council, following his student activity, and he was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and deprived of a full academic year.

After he was released in 2014, he was supposed to return to the university to complete his studies; however, he was arrested again in 2015 and remained in administrative detention for two years without any charge, and his detention was extended several times, every time for six months. He was released at the end of 2017.

In December of 2019, Shtayyeh obtained a bachelor's degree in political science while he was imprisoned as the Israeli forces had arrested him while he was in his last semester at the university.

According to the ruling, there is less than a month left, approximately 20 days, for his release after he finished the sentence issued against him.
