An independent “people’s court” known as the Gaza Tribunal concluded on 26 October 2025 that Israel has perpetrated a systematic genocide against the people of Gaza, urging the international community to intervene without delay. Held at İstanbul University under the chairmanship of Richard Falk, the tribunal built its case over four days of hearings at which journalists, legal professionals and human-rights advocates submitted detailed testimony.
According to the tribunal, evidence included hundreds of first-hand accounts and archival videos showing assaults on civilians, attacks on media professionals, destruction of infrastructure and a blockade deemed culpable for mass suffering. Testimony was drawn from over 100 witnesses and jurists presented an expansive legal framework grounded in colonial-settler history and international human-rights doctrine.
While the tribunal has no binding legal power, its moral verdict is positioned as a challenge to state actors and multilateral bodies who have so far failed to prevent the crisis. It demands that formal mechanisms, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, be held to account for their inability to stop what it calls the most urgent humanitarian emergency of our time.
