Thousands of homes in Gaza are at imminent risk of collapse, posing a serious threat to civilians already reeling from extensive destruction caused by ongoing military operations. Emergency services have warned that entering these damaged buildings is extremely dangerous, as structural instability has claimed multiple lives and left hundreds more injured.
Officials report that the most severely affected areas include Gaza City and its surrounding neighbourhoods, where the majority of homes have suffered critical damage. Local residents, driven by necessity and a lack of alternative accommodation, continue to inhabit these structures despite the hazards. Efforts by civil defence teams to stabilise the situation have been hampered by the scarcity of temporary shelters, tents, and caravans, which remain largely inaccessible due to restrictions on aid delivery.
Recent incidents underline the peril faced by families across the Strip. Several homes in the Al-Zarqa district and the Al-Shati refugee camp collapsed after walls and foundations gave way, leaving residents trapped or injured. Emergency personnel have called for urgent international support to provide safe shelters and humanitarian resources, warning that without rapid intervention, the humanitarian crisis will continue to escalate, leaving countless civilians exposed to life-threatening risks.
