The United Nations has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank, highlighting a sharp rise in violence that is putting Palestinian civilians at increasing risk of casualties, displacement, and insecurity. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that humanitarian colleagues report persistent attacks, destruction of property, loss of livelihoods, and a heightened sense of fear among residents.
According to UN figures, 50 Palestinian children have been killed since the start of 2025, with total Palestinian fatalities exceeding 200 this year alone. The escalation follows intensified military operations by Israeli forces in the West Bank after the genocidal campaign in Gaza began in October 2023. Observers report that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and approximately 10,700 injured, while over 20,500 have been detained in recent years.
The ongoing violence occurs in the context of a 2024 advisory from the International Court of Justice, which declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Despite the advisory, the situation on the ground continues to deteriorate, leaving local communities exposed to ongoing insecurity and human rights violations.
