Shifting American attitudes signal declining backing for Israeli leadership amid Gaza genocide

Public sentiment in the United States appears to be undergoing a notable shift, with fewer people now expressing a favourable view of Israeli leadership and its conduct during the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza. A recent nationwide survey indicates that approval ratings have dropped significantly over the past few years, reflecting a broader change in how American society perceives the situation.

Only around 37% of respondents now report a positive view of the Israeli leadership, compared with 45% the previous year and 55% in 2022. At the same time, nearly two thirds of those surveyed expressed an unfavourable opinion, suggesting a steady rise in public criticism and growing discomfort with the scale of violence and its humanitarian impact.

Confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also weakened considerably. Just 27% of participants said they trust his handling of global affairs, while 59% indicated little to no confidence in his leadership. This decline is particularly evident among Americans under the age of 50 across the political spectrum, pointing to a generational realignment in attitudes.

These trends emerge against the backdrop of the ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, as public opinion in the United States increasingly reflects concern over the extent of destruction and the human cost imposed on Palestinian civilians.
