Dozens of Patients Leave Gaza for Urgent Treatment as Crossings Remain Severely Restricted

A limited group of patients was permitted to leave Gaza on Sunday through the Rafah crossing, offering a rare opportunity for urgent medical care beyond the territory’s overwhelmed health system. The departure of 69 individuals, including patients and their accompanying relatives, underscores the continuing strain on medical services amid a prolonged genocidal war and severe restrictions on movement.

Among those allowed to travel were children suffering from cancer, whose conditions require specialised treatment unavailable locally. For many families, the journey represents a fragile lifeline, as hospitals inside Gaza struggle with shortages of equipment, medication, and the capacity to respond to complex cases. The deteriorating health situation has left countless others waiting, with access to treatment often dependent on sporadic and tightly controlled exits.

No further medical evacuations are expected on Monday, as the Rafah crossing is set to close from the Egyptian side due to an official holiday. The intermittent operation of the crossing continues to disrupt access to essential care, deepening the uncertainty faced by patients in urgent need and highlighting the broader humanitarian consequences of restricted mobility.
