Café in western Gaza hit as violations of ceasefire continue amid genocidal war

A civilian was killed and several others were injured on Monday evening after an aerial strike struck a café area near a residential tower in the al-Rimal neighbourhood, in western Gaza City. The location, usually known for light commercial activity and civilian gathering, was left heavily damaged, with witnesses describing scenes of panic and confusion as people rushed to help the wounded.

Medical sources reported the death of Islam Hisham Qanita, while multiple others sustained injuries, including at least one individual in critical condition. Emergency teams struggled to reach the area swiftly due to ongoing insecurity and repeated damage to surrounding infrastructure, which has severely constrained rescue operations across the city.

The incident comes against a backdrop of repeated violations of a fragile ceasefire agreement, with continued deadly incidents reported across the territory. Since October, hundreds of civilians have been killed and thousands more injured, as the broader genocidal war has intensified pressure on already overwhelmed medical and civil defence services.

Health authorities in Gaza have also reiterated that the overall toll continues to rise sharply, with tens of thousands reported killed and over a hundred thousand injured since October 2023. Officials further warn that many remain trapped under rubble or stranded in inaccessible areas, as rescue teams face critical shortages of equipment and fuel.
