Palestinian prisoner with Cancer should urgently be released

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee warned on Wednesday of the worsening health of the prisoner, who suffers from Cancer, Hussein Masalma, 37, from Bethlehem, who has been sentenced to 20 years in prison since 2002.

Masalma has entered a dangerous and critical stage in the intensive care unit of the Israeli Soroka Medical Center.

In a press release reached Safa, it was stated that the prisoner was suffering from severe abdominal pain in the previous period, but the prison administration did not care about his condition and temporized his transfer to the hospital to diagnose his condition and receive treatment, so that it was discovered later that he had leukemia and since about a week his health has deteriorated continuously.

The Israeli prisons administration is keen on, medically, violating sick prisoners in all detention centers, as it deliberately targets them by neglecting their health conditions, not providing them with effective treatment and being reckless about their lives. Moreover, with the outbreak of Coronavirus and the increase in the number of infections among the prisoners, there is clear concern about the fate of the sick prisoners, who are with weak immunity, like cancer patients.

The committee called on the international community human rights, legal and humanitarian institutions to urgently intervene and put pressure on the Israeli government to release sick prisoners, especially cancer patients.
