The secretary-general of the United Nations welcomed the legislative and presidential elections as well as the elections for the Palestinian National Council, which will be held next May.

Gueterres stated “the conduct of elections in West Bank, including Jerusalem and Gaza, is a decisive step to unite the Palestinian factions and to legitimize the national institutions, including the parliament and the democratically evectional governments.

He called for easing and supporting the political participation of Palestinian women in all phases of elections.

He also hoped that the conduct of elections will resume the process of settlement, according to the UN resolutions, bilateral agreements and international law.

He finally expressed his readiness to support efforts made to support the Palestinians in exercising their democratic rights.
