SAFA – Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Thursday condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, several Knesset members, and hundreds of Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

In a statement, the ministry denounced actions that accompanied the raid, including assaults on worshippers, provocative conduct, the raising of Israeli flags inside the mosque compound, and incitement by extremist groups.

The ministry said the raid constituted a violation of the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and represented a dangerous escalation and provocation.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Majali reiterated Jordan's rejection and condemnation of the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli ministers, Knesset members, and settlers, as well as the role of Israeli occupation forces in facilitating them.

Majali said the incursions violate international law and international humanitarian law and constitute an assault on Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. He added that they form part of attempts to impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque by seeking to divide it temporally and spatially.

He warned of the consequences of the continued incursions and violations against the holy sites and the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem.

Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He also called on the international community to take a clear and firm position to compel Israel to end its ongoing violations against the holy sites in Jerusalem and halt the provocative actions of Israeli officials and settler groups.
