Palestinian Prisoners Club announced on Wednesday that 15 prisoners had been infected with Coronavirus in Raymond Israeli military jail.
The number of the infections in the aforementioned prison has increased since January 11, 2021 to reach 53 cases, the club stated in a statement reached Safa.
This brings the number of COVID-19 infections among the prisoners since the beginning of the epidemic to more than 265.
The virus infection had spread to two new sections, which are:( 2,6), after it was confined to the three sections of (4,3,1).
The number of departments in which the virus infection appeared has increased to five out of seven, which holds more than 650 prisoners.
The club explained that the infections appeared after random samples were taken from all departments of the prison, which portends a disaster, pointing out that the prison administration informed the prisoners to cancel giving the vaccine, which was scheduled for today.
The procrastination and recklessness in taking samples from the prisoners, as well as the announcement of their results, contributed mainly to the continued spread of the virus infection and its transmission to new sections of the prison.
The club accused the Israeli prisons administration of endeavoring to systematically transform the epidemic into a tool of suppression and abuse, pointing out that the greatest danger in Raymond Jail lies in the existence of sick prisoners suffering from chronic diseases in it, as the majority of whom are of high sentences.
Part of the current risks is that the details of the health status of the infections prisoners are not known accurately and there is great concern that the families of the prisoners live, especially after infections are recorded among the ranks of the patients, the club said.
The World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross were called on to work seriously and urgently to release the sick prisoners, the elderly in particular, and to send an international medical committee to look into the health conditions of the prisoners in light of the catastrophic developments, due to the continuing spread of the epidemic and the escalation of infections.
