SAFA — The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs announced the death of 36-year-old Palestinian prisoner Ihab Mohammed Abdul Qader Diab, from the Gaza Strip, while in Israeli custody.

The commission said Diab had been detained by Israeli forces since December 12, 2023, and remained in detention until his death was announced.

Diab’s death comes amid the continued detention of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli prisons and detention facilities, including Palestinians from the Gaza Strip detained since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza.

Palestinian prisoners’ rights groups have repeatedly called for greater transparency regarding the conditions of detainees, particularly those from Gaza, and demanded guarantees for their rights, safety, and protection in accordance with international law.
