The Islamic resistance movement Hamas on Wednesday condemned the normalization agreement with Israel signed by Kosovo and its request to open an embassy in Jerusalem.
“Kosovo’s pledge to open an embassy in Jerusalem is a violation of all international resolutions and humanitarian covenants,” Hamas spokesman, Hazem Qassem, said in a statement reached Safa.
The decision by a country like Kosovo comes with encouragement from the normalization steps taken by some Arab countries.
Jerusalem will always remain Palestinian and its identity will remain authentic Arab, and all Israel’s attempts will not change the facts of history, Qassem stressed.
Israel and Kosovo on the last Monday the Establishment of diplomatic ties, with the Muslim-majority country recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In a ceremony held over Zoom, Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and his counterpart from Kosovo, Meliza Haradinaj Stublla, signed a joint declaration establishing ties.
Ashkenazi also said he had approved Kosovo’s “formal request to open an embassy in Jerusalem”.
