As Gaza descends further into famine, Hamas has issued a scathing statement criticising what it called a “disappointing silence” from Arab and Islamic leaders. The movement expressed deep frustration at the failure to implement the resolutions of the Arab-Islamic Summit held in Riyadh last November, accusing regional powers of standing by while Palestinians die of hunger.
“Our people are starving,” the statement read. “It is time to open the crossings, to break the siege, and to deliver aid to those who are being slowly killed.” The group warned that the Strip is entering a phase of famine “unprecedented in its scale and cruelty,” with nearly 100 civilians, most of them children, already dead due to starvation.
Hamas denounced the ongoing lack of serious response, saying that the minimal reactions seen so far fall far short of what the catastrophe demands. The movement argued that this indifference has only emboldened Israel to intensify its blockade, accusing it of weaponising starvation as part of a policy of “systematic genocide and humiliation.”
Thousands of aid trucks remain stuck on the Egyptian side of Rafah, while Gaza's population continues to suffer without food, water, or medical support. The statement urged Arab and Islamic countries to take a “historic stance” by using all available tools to pressure for the immediate lifting of the siege.
Finally, Hamas called for the severing of ties with Israel, including the closure of embassies, expulsion of ambassadors, and a complete halt to normalisation, urging states to take firm, tangible steps to hold the occupation accountable for its crimes.
