SAFA - Nikolay Mladenov, a representative of the Gaza Peace Council, called on Israel to stop killing civilians in the Gaza Strip, warning that Palestinians continue to face unjustified attacks.
Speaking at a briefing to the UN Security Council in New York, Mladenov called for the protection of civilians and stressed the need to uphold international humanitarian law.
“Israel must stop its military operations in Gaza,” Mladenov said, emphasizing that continued Israeli attacks on civilians are worsening the humanitarian crisis and deepening the suffering of Gaza’s population.
Detailing next steps, Mladenov announced that a stabilization force is now prepared to begin its mission following the establishment of necessary sites, forming part of broader efforts to support stability across the Gaza Strip.
He added that the National Committee in Gaza is intended to assume an interim administrative role, focusing on restoring essential services, improving daily living conditions, and facilitating aid delivery.
However, Mladenov warned that humanitarian relief efforts remain severely constrained by a critical funding shortfall. Acknowledging the widespread famine sweeping across Gaza, he noted that intensive coordination with the United Nations is underway to restore access to basic necessities.
He also raised urgent concerns over Gaza’s lack of adequate preparation for the upcoming winter, calling for immediate international action to protect vulnerable residents.
The warning comes as Palestinians endure continuous severe hardship following Israel's prolonged genocidal war and the widespread destruction of vital infrastructure.
Reiterating his demand for an immediate end to Israel’s genocidal war, Mladenov stressed that the ongoing targeting of civilians only exacerbates the humanitarian emergency facing the Gaza Strip.
