Hamas Demands Immediate Action After Israeli Strikes Kill Three at Gaza’s Islamic University

SAFA — Hamas has called on ceasefire mediators and guarantor countries to intervene immediately after Israeli drone strikes hit the Islamic University of Gaza on Sunday, killing three university staff members and wounding several Palestinians, including students.

The movement condemned the attack as a war crime and accused Israel of continuing to violate the Gaza ceasefire agreement through repeated killings, bombardment, restrictions on humanitarian aid and the seizure of Palestinian land.

In a statement issued Sunday, Hamas urged mediators to fulfill their responsibilities and exert immediate pressure on Israel to halt its attacks on civilians, end the blockade and provide urgent relief to more than two million Palestinians facing hunger and continued violence.

Two Israeli Strikes Hit University Campus

According to local sources, an Israeli drone first targeted a gathering of students inside the Islamic University campus in western Gaza City, wounding more than five Palestinians, some critically.

Shortly afterward, a second Israeli drone strike hit the university grounds, killing three Palestinians identified by Hamas as university staff members and injuring others.

The attacks struck an educational institution while students were present, renewing fears over the safety of Gaza's remaining academic facilities following years of Israeli bombardment and widespread destruction of schools and universities.

Hamas described the strikes as a clear war crime and part of what it called Israel's continuing genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza.

Hamas Accuses Israel of Repeated Ceasefire Violations

The movement accused the Israeli government of systematically violating the ceasefire agreement by intensifying airstrikes and attacks on residential neighborhoods, displacement camps and civilian institutions.

It also accused Israeli forces of expanding their control over Palestinian territory by shifting the so-called Yellow Line westward, further restricting areas accessible to Gaza's residents.

Hamas said Israel continues to obstruct the entry of essential food supplies despite its commitments under the ceasefire agreement.

The movement argued that these actions disregard both the terms of the agreement and the efforts and commitments of the mediators and guarantor states.

Mediators Urged to End Attacks and Gaza Blockade

Hamas called for urgent international intervention to stop Israeli attacks, lift the blockade and ensure humanitarian assistance reaches Gaza's population.

It urged mediators and countries guaranteeing the ceasefire to take concrete steps to enforce the agreement rather than allow violations to continue.

The latest strikes have intensified fears for Palestinian students and educators attempting to resume academic life amid widespread destruction and continuing insecurity.

For Gaza's civilians, Hamas said, international intervention is urgently needed to prevent further deaths, address worsening hunger and ensure that ceasefire commitments are upheld.
