Palestinian prisoner faces harsh conditions due to his infection with COVID-19

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that the Israeli prison administration transferred the prisoner Ayman Sidr, 54, from the Ramla Clinic prison to the Israeli Assaf Harofe hospital, due to his health condition as a result of his infection with Coronavirus.

PPS stated that the prisoner Sidr was recently transferred from Raymond Prison to Soroka Hospital, despite his urgent need to be in the hospital and under close medical supervision; however, the administration transferred him to the Ramla Clinic prison, which lacks the minimum conditions for necessary health care.

It pointed out that Sidr is one of the dozens of prisoners who have been infected with Coronavirus in Raymond prison since January 11, and a number of them are still suffering.

In addition, it held the Israeli prison administration fully responsible for the lives of Prisoner Sidr and all other prisoners.

It also called on the competent authorities, headed by the Red Cross, to play a real role in monitoring the conditions of the infected prisoners.

It is noteworthy that the prisoner Sidr has been detained for 26 years and sentenced to life imprisonment, and he is one of the oldest Jerusalem prisoners in the occupation prisons. He suffers from health problems and diseases, as a result of the harsh detention conditions he was exposed to over the past years, where he was subjected to a harsh interrogation that lasted for five months in the "Al-Maskobiyya" investigation center after his arrest.

Around 355 prisoners in the occupation prisons have been infected with Coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.
