Global campaign to support Sheikh of Al-Aqsa in solitary confinement

A global campaign was launched on Saturday to support the captive Sheikh of Al-Aqsa, Raed Salah, after transferring him to Ohli Kedar Israeli prison and demanding an extension of his isolation in prison for another 6 months by Israel.

The campaign aims to support Sheikh Salah through the hashtag (# Solidarity_with_Raed_Salah), and it was popular on social media within hours of its launch.

Israel transferred Sheikh Salah to Ohli Kedar prison amid Israeli calls for an extension of his isolation for another 6 months in a clear insistence on violating all international laws and norms.

Sheikh Salah entered the prison on August 8, 2020, after the Haifa District Court decided to approve his detention for 28 months.

Salah spent 11 months of them before entering prison in August last year after he was convicted of incitement upon his call to travel to Al-Aqsa, which is known in the media as the "file of constants".

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the court refused to replace the prison with home confinement and kept it in detention in the Israeli jails.

The international AFD organization said: "Solitary confinement itself is a punishment for a prisoner when he violates the internal system of the prison institution and Sheikh Salah had not violated that."

“This is what prompts us to describe these demands as revenge and violates human rights charters, especially the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which protect the rights of prisoners, and those stipulated in the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners."

AFD considered that the arrest of Sheikh Salah was originally linked to his positions on the Israeli authorities violations in Jerusalem, calling on the Israeli government to correct the situation and improve the conditions of his detention.

AFD called on international and security institutions, especially human rights organizations, to play their role in addressing the Israeli authorities, both in the sheikh’s file and in the status of Palestinian prisoners in detention centers and prisons.

The businessman and former head of the Turkish Businessmen Association in Egypt, Ahmed Matar, supported Sheikh Salah by tweeting an identification card about him, includes his birth and his struggles, saying: "He is the first to discover the Israeli excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Turkish activist Bassam Douaihy expressed his solidarity with the sheikh by tweeting on the campaign hashtag: “In loyalty to Sheikh Raed Salah and the symbol of steadfastness in the face of oppressors and the owner of the initiatives that send the nation’s meanings of pride and dignity, I wish you and urge you all to interact, publish, and tweet the attached hashtag in support of the Sheikh by adopting the hashtag # Solidarity-with- Raed-Salah during theses days.

The International Forum "Jerusalem is my trust" wrote on the authority of Sheikh Salah: "Oh God, we testify that we think that he is one of your saints, servants and loyal ones, and we do not recommend him to you, and you are the visionary expert."

The general coordinator of the Tunisian Justice and Development Party, Al-Abbas Al-Mistawi, said: "We are launching a solidarity campaign with Sheikh Al-Aqsa under the hashtag # Solidarity with Raed Salah, who is being isolated in isolation in the occupation prisons."

In February 2020, Israel reconciliation court in Haifa sentenced Sheikh Raed Salah to 28 months in prison.

The Israeli court had convicted Sheikh Salah on charges of inciting terrorism and violence and supporting a terrorist organization.
