Israel postpones releasing prisoner Osama Fakhoury

The Israeli authorities on Monday postponed the release of the prisoner Osama Al-Fakhoury, son of the writer Lama Khater, after stopping the law that states to decrease the period of sentence.

Writer Lama Khater told Safa that the lawyer informed the family this morning to postpone the early release of her son, following the suspension of the law, which works to reduce the prisoner's detention period.

She added that her son may be released within the next few days through the reducing sentence law, noting that his basic ruling, without reduction, ends on the second of next May.

The student at Birzeit University and the former head of its student council, Osama Al-Fakhoury, were arrested on July 2, 2019, after the Israeli forces stormed his university residence in the town of Birzeit.

Al-Fakhoury's arrest came days before the release of his mother, the writer Lama Khater, who was detained for 13 months in the Israeli prisons, on charges of inciting Israel through her writings.

Al-Fakhoury was sentenced by the Israeli Military Court to 22 months in prison, after his trial was postponed 6 times.
