UNESCO takes new resolution regarding Israel's actions in Jerusalem

Daifallah Alfayez, the spokesperson of Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Monday that UNESCO's adaptation of a new resolution regading Israel's actions in Jerusalem came after a Jordanian diplomatic effort in coordination with their brothers in Palestine, and the Arabic and Islamic groups in the organization.

He stated that the resolution confirmed Jordan's position on the old city of Jerusalem, its walls, and its Islamic and Christian places, and confirmed that the resolution considered all Israeli procedures aiming at changing the holy city's culture as null and void.

"The resolution confirmed UNESCO's regret to make Israel stop excavation works, construction of tunnels, and all illegal works in eastern Jerusalem regarding international law," Alfayez said.

UNESCO's resolution proved the name of Al-Aqsa Mosque as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

The resolution asked for appointing a constant representative of the Directorate-General in Jerusalem to document Israeli actions within the organization's competence.

It also asked for sending a monitoring mission from UNESCO into Jerusalem regarding Israel's procedures as an occupying force.
