Israeli forces on Monday evening released the professor and university lecturer, Imad Al-Barghouti, after being detained for nearly 11 months.
The freed prisoner the Palestinian astronomer and physicist Professor Imad Barghouti, 53, was detained on July 16, 2020 at the checkpoint of the town of Anata, northeast of Jerusalem.
The Israeli Court on September 3, 2020 transferred Barghouti from Ramallah to administrative detention
The occupation forces had previously arrested Professor Imad Al-Barghouti, on December 6, 2015, under penalty of arbitrary administrative detention, at the Jordanian Karama crossing, while he was on his way to a scientific conference in the UAE.
Al-Barghouti was interrogated during his first arrest for his participation in demonstrations against the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in 2014.
The Israeli forces re-arrested Professor Barghouti in 2016 against the background of several Facebook posts, to release him nearly two months after his arrest, following an international solidarity campaign by some academics.
It is noteworthy that Al-Barghouti was born in the town of Beit Rima and is the dean of the Faculty of Physics at Al-Quds University.
The Israeli forces deliberately pursue some influential figures and scientists working in the West Bank, and often judge them administratively under the name of the secret file.
Through these arrests, the Israeli forces aim to silence the voices of influential people in the West Bank, especially among university students, whether at the level of lecturers or student leaders.
