Hamas delegation concludes visit to Mauritia

A senior delegation from Hamas, led by the head of the movement’s politburo Ismail Haniyeh, has rounded off its three-day visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

During the visit, the delegation met with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani and a number of leading political and societal officials in the West African nation.

This visit comes as part of the political and diplomatic efforts exerted by the Hamas chief and leadership to achieve the Palestinians’ aspirations and restore their legitimate rights.

At the beginning of his visit, Haniyeh discussed with El-Ghazouani the latest political and field developments in Palestine and the political efforts needed to be exerted to isolate the Israeli occupation regionally and globally.

The Hamas delegation then met with Cheikh Ould Baya, chairman of Mauritania’s National Assembly, Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar, head of the Union for the Republic (UPR), along with a number of the party’s leaders, including his deputies, the party’s secretary-general, and executive secretary-general, in addition to Mauritanian opposition leader Ibrahim Bakay.

Haniyeh, meanwhile, received a number of leaders of Mauritanian political parties, including chairmen of the Rally for Reform and Development Party, the Union of the Forces of Progress, the Mauritanian party of Union and Change, the Reform Party, and the National Democratic Alliance.

The top Hamas official also received heads of Sawab party, the Future party, the Union for Democracy and Progress party, the El-Hiwar party, the Democratic-Republican Party for Renewal, and the National Vanguard Party, along with a delegation from the Future Society and a number of representatives of civil society and human rights groups, societies, and charities.

During the meetings, Haniyeh expressed his appreciation to the official and popular Mauritanian position either by rejecting normalization with the Israeli occupation or playing a diplomatic role in support of the Palestinian cause, as well as staging popular protests in solidarity with the Palestinian people. He affirmed the strong relationship between Palestine and Mauritania throughout history.

The head of Hamas politburo hailed all efforts exerted by the Mauritanian president, government, parliament, parties, and masses and the massive sense of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and people.

The high-level delegation, in addition, addressed the political changes resulting from the "Sword of Al-Quds" battle and the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinians due to Israeli measures and violations.
The Mauritanian president, government, parliament, parties, and people, in return, stressed that the Palestinian cause is a point of consensus in the country, reaffirming their support for the Palestinian people, resistance, Jerusalem, the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and Gaza.

The Hamas delegation concluded its visit with a reception party attended by dozens of Mauritian leaders, intellectuals, and politicians, in which Haniyeh delivered a speech on the current political situation in Palestine.
