Testimonies of female journalists exposed to beating and seizure of phones in protests in Ramallah

Palestinian female journalists reviewed testimonies of their exposure to attacks at the hand of the Security Forces while covering the protests held against the assassination of Nezar Banat in Ramallah.

The testimonies were viewed during a press conference organized by the Al-Haq organization to highlight the attacks committed by the Security Forces against the journalists.

The journalist Najlaa Zeiton stated that they tried many times to seize her phone while covering the events. Even though she showed them the press card, they beat her with a wooden stick.

"Someone robbed my phone and ran towards the Security Forces," Zeiton said.

She confirmed that she was exposed to humiliation, profanity, and beating.

The journalist Faten Alwan said that she was threatened and her phone was seized even though she was wearing her press uniform.

The journalist Shatha Hammad also said that she was exposed to stones and gas canisters by the Security Forces as well as prevention of shooting.

"I am terrified. We feel afraid. There is no protection for journalists," Hammad expressed as she is suffering a bad psychological condition resulting from being threatened and harassed.

The journalist Saja Al-Alami also said that she was suffocated because of the gas canisters, beaten, and chased.

The journalist Faihaa Khanfar testified that she was beaten with stones and sticks amid several attempts to seize her phone.
