Europeans for al-Quds: Jerusalem in June: 2 killed, 1256 injuries, and 466 detainees

The Israeli occupation authorities escalated the perpetration of human rights violations in Jerusalem during June 2021, as an Israeli attempt to impose new incidents in the Damascus Gate area leading to the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque emerged. The Jerusalemites responded to these measures with daily confrontations that left dozens of injuries and detainees.

In the monthly report monitoring the Israeli attacks in Jerusalem, Europeans for al-Quds monitored the Israeli army’s perpetration of 1402 violations varied between 14 types of human rights violations.

Also, about 122 people were wounded with live and rubber-coated metal bullets due to excessive use of force and 320 in various assault incidents, in addition to dozens of cases of suffocation from tear gas.

According to the report, during this month, the occupation forces carried out 198 incursions into towns and neighborhoods of Jerusalem, during which 323 civilians were arrested, including 24 women and 18 children. The occupation authorities also issued 34 house arrest decisions against Jerusalemites, the period of decisions ranged from five days to two weeks, and among the decisions was an open house arrest decision.

European for al-Quds team monitored during June the implementation of 13 demolitions, 9 of which were carried out by the occupation mechanisms, and 4 others were forcible self-demolition. The demolitions carried out by the occupation crews affected two houses, one in the Sweih neighborhood of Ras al-Amud and the other in the town of al-Isawiya, a commercial facility in the al-Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan, several commercial establishments in the town of Hizma, 3 agricultural rooms in the town of al-Isawiya, two dwellings in the town of Mikhmas, a stable for horses in the town of Beit Safafa, and a cave in The town of Al-Isawiya, the sit-in tent in the Batn Al-Hawa neighborhood in the town of Silwan, and a barracks in the town of Sur Baher. It also forced four citizens to carry out forced demolitions of 6 apartments.

The bulldozers of the occupation carried out razing operations in the town of Al-Issawiya, in addition to razing the town of Hizma, aiming to build a new settlement road. In addition, occupation municipality crews stormed several neighborhoods in Jerusalem, including (Al-Bustan neighborhood, Jabal Mukaber town, and Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood) and handed over some people notifications to review the occupation municipality on the pretext of unlicensed construction.

On June 7, it was revealed the decision of the occupation municipality in occupied Jerusalem to build a new huge bridge at the Dung Gate leading to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and to remove the wooden bridge designated for the incursions of extremist settlers.

Moreover, more than 3010 settlers participated in the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque during this month and they carried out provocative tours around it. During the storming period, people and worshipers were prevented from entering the mosque.

The settlers also continued to carry out attacks against citizens in occupied Jerusalem, as 43 attacks carried out by settlers, including assault, shooting, and burning of property of citizens were documented.

In light of this escalation, Europeans for al-Quds warned of the danger of the Israeli escalation and attempts of mass displacement in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods in Jerusalem, warning that this warns of the outbreak of a wave of violence that could threaten the stability of the entire region.

In addition, it stressed the illegality of any de facto measures taken by the occupation authorities in the occupied city of Jerusalem, and that all measures taken by the occupation authorities following the occupation of the city in 1967 do not change its legal status as an occupied area.
