Palestinian Media Forum organized 17 July a stand in solidarity with Shehab News Agency due to Facebook's removal of its 7.5-million-follower page.
Dozens of journalists and media workers gathered in front of the Shehab News Agency headquarters in Gaza City, carrying banners of solidarity calling for the support of Palestinian content locally and internationally.
"Today, we stand in solidarity with ourselves against fighting Palestinian content, and not only in solidarity with the Shehab Agency, as many of the abuses have been committed towards Palestinian content," said Vice Chairman of the Media Forum, Muhammad Abu Qamar.
Abu Qamar pointed out that last month, 39 violations were monitored against the Palestinian content, 28 of which were from Facebook.
For his part, the director of the Shehab News Agency, Ramah Mubarak, denounced the Facebook removal of Shehab page, calling on Facebook to reverse its removal and stop restricting Palestinian content.
Mubarak called for the formation of a coalition that includes the Palestinian and Arab media and their supporters from all the free people in the world, to stand united against the arrogance of Facebook.
Meanwhile, journalist Nasser Al-Arini, said that Facebook's removal of Shehab page was "a deliberate crime."
Al-Arini indicated that the fight against Palestinian content has increased on social media platforms, especially after the recent aggression on the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and the aggression on Gaza, where last month witnessed a large number of violations.
He called on international media organizations and all those calling for freedom of opinion and expression to stand by the Palestinian media in confronting the violations of the Israeli occupation.
