Amnesty International: Ben & Jerry's decision to stop sales in Israeli settlements in occupied Jerusalem is significant

Amnesty International confirmed that Ben and Jerry's decision to stop sales in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank was legal, important step as the company commits to its duties towards respecting the international law and all human rights.

Amnesty International confirmed that companies cannot practice activities in the Israeli settlement nor can they build relations with illegal settlements. Otherwise, it will violate the international law and human rights.

"Building settlements violate all principles of international law related to the responsibilities of each occupying force, and all human rights of the Palestinian people," it said.

"Companies working in Israeli settlements benefit from Israel's seizure of the Palestinians' lands and their sources, its discriminatory policies of urban planning, incentives, and infrastructure of those settlements," it added.

Ben & Jerry's Company had reported on July 19 that it will stop selling ice cream in Israeli settlements as this interferes with its values.

"We have a long-term partnership with the agent making Ben & Jerry;s ice cream in Israel, and we have already told him that we will not renew the deal when it ends in the end of the next year," it added.
