SAFA -  Israeli occupation forces detained 630 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank in July, including women, children, and former prisoners, as arrest campaigns intensified alongside the Israeli genocide in Gaza, the Palestinian Prisoner Society said on Tuesday.

The latest arrests bring the total number of Palestinians held in the occupied West Bank since October 2023 to more than 25,000, the prisoners’ rights organization said.

The society stated that Israeli military raids were accompanied by widespread violations, including field interrogations, violent nighttime home raids, systematic destruction of property, physical assaults on detainees and their families, threats, humiliation, hostage-taking of family members, confiscation of money and personal belongings, and field executions.

The organization also linked the increase in arrests to escalating attacks by Israeli settlers, particularly in Palestinian towns and villages targeted by illegal settlement expansion. It said dozens of Palestinians were detained during settler attacks carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Approximately 9,500 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel, including 92 women and 370 children. Rights groups say detainees continue to face harsh detention conditions, with dozens of Palestinians killed in custody due to starvation, torture, and medical neglect.

The statement also highlighted Israel’s use of the Unlawful Combatant Law, adopted by the Israeli Knesset in 2002, which allows authorities to detain Palestinians for indefinite periods without formal charges or sufficient evidence being presented before a court, according to the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights.

Palestinian rights organizations have repeatedly warned that Israel’s mass arrest campaigns constitute a key component of its broader policies against Palestinians in both the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, calling for international intervention to end arbitrary detention practices and ensure accountability for violations committed against detainees.
