The Coordinating Council of Electoral Lists warned of the danger of the Council of Ministers decision headed by Muhammad Shtayyeh issued on the sixth of this September regarding holding the elections of local bodies in stages and according to categories.
Spokesman for the Coordinating Council for Electoral Lists, Nasser Al-Kittani, said on Monday in a statement reached Safa that these local elections are an attempt to extrapolate the Palestinian street and circumvent Palestinian legitimacy. They are also and an attempt to distract the Palestinian people.
Al-Kittani affirmed that the parliament will come out with a unified and clear position towards the announced elections in a press conference at noon on Wednesday in front of the Palestinian Legislative Council, simultaneously, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip .
On September 6, 2021, the Council of Ministers decided next December 11, as the date for holding the first phase of local elections without consensus.
The first phase of the electoral process, according to the decision of the Council of Ministers, will include village councils and municipal councils classified as "C" in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
September 2021 is the end of the current election cycle for local councils.
Without consensus or action in the Gaza Strip, the last local elections were held on May 13, 2017, followed by complementary elections in July of the same year in the West Bank.
In 2018, the Council of Ministers decided to hold run-off elections in 20 local bodies, in which only 5 bodies participated. The poll took place on September 22, 2018.
On May 6, 2019, it was announced that run-off local elections would be held in 14 local bodies, with the polling day set for July 13, 2019.
