Louay Masoud: A Rising Star of Palestinian Football Lost to Israeli Aggression

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have killed hundreds of Palestinian athletes and sports figures, among them the young footballer Louay Jabr Masoud, whose life was tragically cut short by an Israeli drone strike.

Born on January 17, 2001, in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, Louay displayed passion and talent for sports from an early age. He completed his high school education at Khalifa bin Zayed School before enrolling at university, balancing academics with his dedication to football.

Louay began his athletic journey playing on school teams, in mosques, and in community spaces. His remarkable abilities led him to join the youth football team of Jabalia Services Club, where he played as a key defender under the guidance of coach Ahmed Awida.

Throughout his career, Louay participated in numerous championships organized by the Palestinian Football Association. He helped his team secure two championships for players born in 2001 at the Gaza and North Branch level. His dedication also led the team to earn the runner-up position in tournaments dominated by Rafah Services and Youth, two major teams in Palestinian football.

On Thursday, October 31, 2024, Louay’s promising journey was tragically ended when an Israeli drone targeted him with a missile, a stark reminder of the countless lives lost in the ongoing aggression against Gaza.

Louay Masoud’s story reflects the resilience of the Palestinian sports movement, which continues to face devastation amid relentless violence, yet inspires hope and resistance through the enduring legacy of its martyrs.
