Israeli Prison Service Intensifies Mistreatment and Abuses Against Palestinian Female Prisoners

The Palestinian Prisoners Club has reported that female Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons are enduring some of the most brutal conditions in recent history, as the Israeli Prison Service escalates violations and attacks against them. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have intensified the arrest of Palestinian women and significantly increased crimes and assaults, particularly sexual assaults, which have become a prominent feature in the testimonies of female prisoners.

The Prisoners Club explained that the Israeli forces have specifically targeted mothers, elderly women, pregnant women, journalists, and minors. Some female prisoners have been detained multiple times as hostages, with the aim of pressuring a wanted family member to surrender.

Currently, there are 88 known female prisoners, including four from Gaza, held in Israeli prisons. The statement added that among the detainees, there are 22 administrative detainees, 18 students, 5 journalists, 2 lawyers, and 2 minors. This data does not include all female prisoners from Gaza, as only the number detained in Al-Damon Prison is known. It is likely that many female prisoners from Gaza are held in other prisons or camps, where they may be subjected to enforced disappearance, similar to hundreds of other detainees from Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 12,100 citizens from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, have been arrested. The number of arrests in Gaza is estimated to be in the thousands, though exact figures remain difficult to confirm.
