A sewage overflow at the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza has inundated multiple departments and outdoor areas, severely disrupting patient care. The flooding has created serious health risks for both patients and medical staff, who are struggling to maintain essential services under these conditions. Hospital officials say the crisis adds to an already dire humanitarian situation in the region.
Inspections revealed that Israeli attacks had severely damaged the main sewage lines in central Khan Yunis, halting all repair efforts. Maintenance teams have been prevented from accessing the damaged infrastructure, leaving hospital staff to manage the crisis with limited resources. The ongoing obstruction has intensified concerns over the safety and wellbeing of patients across the complex.
The hospital has called on international organisations, including the WHO and human rights groups, to intervene urgently. Officials emphasised the need for Israel to grant immediate access for repairs to restore critical services. Without prompt action, patients’ lives remain at risk, and the facility’s ability to provide care continues to deteriorate.
