Gaza Children’s Dreams for 2025: Peace and a Return to Normal Life

The children of Gaza have simple yet heart-breaking wishes for 2025: an end to the war and a return to their homes, schools, and normal lives. Unlike children in other parts of the world, Gaza’s youth no longer dream of grand aspirations. After over a year of relentless Israeli aggression, their only hope is for peace to be restored.

Marwa Tafesh, 11, displaced since last May when the Israeli army invaded her neighbourhood in Gaza City, shares her wish: "I just want the war to stop." She hopes to return to her home or, if it is destroyed, live in a tent until it can be rebuilt. Her family refuses to leave Gaza, even under the direst circumstances, choosing to stay on their land.

Twelve-year-old Hazem Irhim dreams of peace and the chance to reclaim the life he left behind. "I want to return to school as a student, not as a displaced person," he says. Hazem cherishes memories of his room, his schoolbooks, and the certificates he once earned for academic excellence. He dreams of completing his education and becoming a doctor.

For Razan Al-Za’about, 10, her wish is for an end to the terror of missiles and a return to the warmth of her home. She prays daily for the war to stop, hoping for the day when Gaza’s markets are filled with sweets, chocolates, and the familiar comforts of her childhood.

Other children, like 10-year-old Abdullah Al-Hajin and seven-year-old Lana Al-Khawli, share similar dreams. Abdullah, who lost his home in northern Gaza, longs for a proper meal, while Lana hopes for a tent to cover her family’s ruins until their home is rebuilt. Above all, Gaza’s children dream of a life without war, where they can finally feel safe and dream again.
