US Arms Deal with Israel: A Clear Endorsement of Genocide in Gaza

The Biden administration has officially notified Congress of a proposed $8 billion arms deal with Israel, a move seen as a deepening of the US's complicity in the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Over 14 months of brutal violence, tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including countless women and children, have been killed in the Israeli occupation's assault.

This latest deal includes multi-purpose ammunition and artillery shells, alongside bombs, ammunition for fighter jets, and GPS-guided bombs. Despite the vast scale of this military package, the weapons are not intended for immediate use, with production and deliveries extending over several years.

Since the October 7 attack, US military aid to Israel has reached nearly $22 billion, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Between 2019 and 2023, the US accounted for 69% of Israel's weapons imports, a figure that has now risen to 78%. By December 2023, the US had transferred over 10,000 tons of weapons, escalating to 50,000 tons by August 2024.

The US’s financial commitment to Israel's war efforts has only deepened since October 7. According to the Watson Institute at Brown University, US funding since that date accounts for nearly 70% of Israel's total war expenditures. With more than 100 military aid transfers, many bypassing the scrutiny Congress is meant to apply, the Biden administration has reinforced Israel’s genocidal campaign with little to no oversight.

The result is the deaths of over 45,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the majority being women and children, with more than 100,000 others injured. Tens of thousands remain imprisoned in Israeli detention. This latest arms deal is not just a transaction; it is a tacit endorsement of the ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people.
