A controversial map of "historical Israel" recently published by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ignited concerns about Zionist ambitions to seize more Arab lands under the guise of biblical narratives. The map includes parts of occupied Palestinian territories alongside regions of Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, reviving the long-standing Zionist vision of a "state from the river to the sea."
Experts have decried this map as a blatant attempt to rewrite history. Khaleel Tufakji, a renowned cartographer, asserts that Israel uses such narratives to justify its territorial expansion. He points to Israel’s actions in Mount Hermon, Quneitra, and the Jordan Valley as evidence of these ambitions, emphasising how international backing has emboldened these efforts. Tufakji warns that Israel aims to reshape the region’s geography under the pretext of religious myths and strategic advantages.
Dr. Ahmed Awad, a political analyst, highlights the dangerous colonial mindset driving Israel’s policies. He describes how extremist ideologies within the current Israeli government fuel aspirations for a "Greater Israel," with calls to annex the West Bank by 2025. Awad notes that while outright border changes would likely provoke regional wars, Israel continues to exploit global dynamics to solidify its dominance and weaken the Palestinian Authority.
These expansionist moves, coupled with support from Western powers, signal a broader strategy to reshape the region in Israel’s favour, exacerbating Palestinian and Arab fears of a new map dictated by occupation and aggression.
