The mayor of Beit Lahya, Alaa Al-Attar, reported that 80% of the homes in the city have been destroyed, leaving 100,000 residents homeless. He described the situation as catastrophic, with the widespread destruction making many homes uninhabitable. Additionally, 80% of the water wells in the area have been damaged, exacerbating the already dire conditions.
Healthcare in Beit Lahya has also been severely impacted. Kamal Adwan Hospital was destroyed, and the Indonesian hospital was burned down. The occupation forces further targeted the healthcare sector by destroying 23 vehicles and demolishing several units of heavy machinery. These actions have worsened the region’s ability to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance and Israel, which came into effect last Sunday, ended a 15-month-long war that caused massive devastation. According to the Government Media Office, the initial direct losses from the Israeli aggression on Gaza exceeded $38 billion, with the destruction rate in Beit Lahya reaching a staggering 88%.
