Mohammed Jamil, head of the Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain, has criticised the international community's response to Israeli occupation crimes, calling it "slow and ineffective." Jamil emphasised that the lack of accountability exacerbates the suffering of Palestinians, who endure systematic crimes, including genocide, while perpetrators enjoy impunity.
Jamil accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor of failing to address key cases, both before and after October 7. He criticised the prosecutor for issuing limited arrest warrants targeting only Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, while ignoring other officials implicated in war crimes. Furthermore, Jamil highlighted the lack of action against the illegal expansion of Israeli settlements and inflammatory figures such as Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, who openly advocate for the eradication of Palestinians.
Jamil also condemned Western powers, led by the United States, for shielding Israeli officials by granting them immunity and political backing. He pointed to a U.S. law imposing sanctions on entities supporting ICC cases involving Israel or the U.S., calling it a deliberate obstacle to justice. Additionally, Jamil criticised the Arab and Islamic world’s failure to support Palestinians at a judicial level, with only Turkey and Libya joining the genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
He warned that this global inaction not only deepens Palestinian suffering but also emboldens the Israeli occupation, perpetuating a cycle of oppression and impunity.
