Israeli media have unveiled new details about the shooting operation at the Tayasir checkpoint east of Jenin, which resulted in the injury of eight Israeli soldiers, including two in critical condition.
According to Channel 13, the assailant managed to breach military fortifications and seize control of the upper floor of a military watchtower, engaging in direct clashes with soldiers inside the site.
Preliminary investigations by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority indicated that the perpetrator wore camouflage, allowing him to infiltrate unnoticed.
Using an **M16** rifle, he set up an ambush outside the camp before launching the attack, firing at one of the soldiers before storming the military site.
The investigations further revealed that the targeted force was a reserve battalion recently deployed to reinforce the site, with its commander sustaining serious injuries. Another soldier from the same unit was killed about ten days earlier.
Channel 12 reported that the operation was carried out in two phases: the first involved shooting at the checkpoint, while the second consisted of breaching military fortifications. The attacker was equipped with a bulletproof vest, which enabled him to position himself inside the site and open fire from within.
Meanwhile, military analyst Avi Ashkenazi told *Maariv* that the incident exposed "serious weaknesses" in the Israeli forces’s vigilance and preparedness.
He stressed the need for a thorough investigation to prevent similar operations in the future, warning of its potential impact on soldier morale and public confidence in the military's effectiveness.
