Palestinian Workers: The Occupation’s Aggression Has Deprived Hundreds of Farmers of Their Land

The General Union of Palestinian Workers has condemned the ongoing aggression by the occupation forces in the northern West Bank, which includes land levelling, rendering hundreds of farmers unable to access their lands.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the union highlighted that the storming of the Al-Fara’a and Tamoun refugee camps, the destruction of roads and agricultural lands, the breaking of a main water line in the Aṭuf Plain, and the imposition of curfews, have all contributed to preventing workers from reaching their agricultural lands in the Aṭuf Plain and collecting their crops, which requires daily labour.

The union further stated that the continued closure of the Wadi Al-Far’a road has also blocked access to the Samit Plain, where hundreds of other workers are employed. Additionally, the occupation forces have stormed large areas in the Jenin Governorate, hindering agricultural work across farms, agricultural facilities, and in the marketing of products.

The union emphasised that farmers and workers in the food industry sector are suffering greatly due to the occupation’s policies. These policies exacerbate poverty and unemployment by targeting local produce, destroying national industry infrastructure, controlling the market and crossings, and imposing severe restrictions on agricultural areas.

The town of Tamoun and the Al-Fara’a refugee camp have been under Israeli aggression for the third consecutive day, marked by arrests, house raids, and attacks on infrastructure and private property.

This comes amid ongoing Israeli aggression in the northern West Bank, which began on January 21 with an assault on the Jenin refugee camp and extended to the Tulkarem city and camp. The aggression later spread to the Tubas Governorate.

Since the start of this year, the occupation’s actions have led to the martyrdom of 71 Palestinians in the West Bank, according to official Palestinian statistics, with dozens more injured. The aggression has also resulted in the displacement of hundreds of families, widespread destruction of roads, levelling of lands and infrastructure, and the imposition of movement restrictions.
