The withdrawal from the Netzarim corridor is a new failure of Israel’s war objectives.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas welcomed the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Netzarim corridor, calling it a "victory" and describing it as yet another failure of the occupying regime to achieve its declared objectives in its 15-month-long genocidal war against the people of Gaza.

In a statement on Sunday, 9 February, Hamas said the Israeli military’s retreat from the corridor—an area used to separate northern and southern Gaza—was further proof of the collapse of Israel’s war strategy. The movement also stated that the return of displaced Palestinians and the exchange of prisoners disproved Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims of victory in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Popular Resistance Committees hailed the withdrawal as a sign of the Palestinian people and the resistance’s triumph over US-Israeli plans. The group declared that the army’s retreat shattered Zionist extremists’ myths and reaffirmed that Palestinians would remain on their land despite forced displacement attempts.

The Netzarim corridor had been established by Israeli occupation forces to enforce the permanent displacement of Palestinians from northern Gaza. However, after more than 15 months of war, Palestinians are now using the same route to return home.
