Israel committed 46 violations against Palestinian journalists last month

The Support Journalists Committee announced, on Tuesday, that there are 46 Israeli violations, 7 internal violations, and 12 violations of social media sites, against journalists and Palestinian content, during November.

During the monthly report on the press freedom, which reached SAFA, the committee stated that Israeli attacks increased in the Palestinian territories during the last month through the arrest, detention and summoning of 9 journalists.

These journalists are: Bushra al-Tawil (arrest), Abd al-Afu Zughair (twice summoning and detention), the Palestine TV team consisting of five journalists, including correspondent Christine Rinawi (summoning), while two journalists were deported from Al-Aqsa Mosque, Abd al-Atu Zughair, for a week, and Annan Naguib for six months.

The committee reported that the Israeli courts issued trials against 6 journalists, as it extended the detention of Abd al-Rahman Zahir (who was later released), postponed the trial twice against Ahmed Abu Sobeih, and detained an administrator Bushra al-Tawil for four months, Mahmoud Ayyad for 6 months, and  Mujahid Mardawi for ten months.

The report also records that 3 journalists in the occupied West Bank were attacked with bullets, tear gas and throwing stones, in addition to being pushed by Israeli soldiers while performing their media dutiesm such as: Hazem Badr and Amir Shaheen.

Meanwhile, the Israeli forces prevented journalists 11 times from practicing their work in covering Israeli violations against Palestinians, and detained and destroyed cameras, equipment and identity cards of 6 journalists.

The Israeli authorities renewed the decision to prevent Palestine TV from working in Jerusalem for 6 months, for the third time in a row.

Fight Content

Moving to the violations of social media sites, the report recorded 12 violations and deletions of a journalists' account and the prevention of publication, including the targeting of the Twitter platform dozens of accounts of journalists and media agencies under the pretext of violating the standards and conditions of service.

Internal Violations

On the level of internal Palestinian violations, the report recorded four violations during the last month in the West Bank, and three in the Gaza Strip.

The report stated that the Public Prosecution in Ramallah summoned and investigated the journalist Faten Alwan, while three sessions against journalists, Naela Khalil and Rami Samara, were postponed.

The committee recorded two summons for journalists from Gaza, and the postponement of another press session.
