Livestock Theft: A Method of Forced Displacement in Palestine

The theft of livestock has become a tool for Israeli settlers to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land in the West Bank. This tactic, involving the theft of sheep, cattle, and horses, is accompanied by threats of violence. Experts confirm that the goal is to strip Palestinians of their livelihoods, particularly in agriculture and animal husbandry, and to drive them from strategic areas like the Jordan Valley.

In January, the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission recorded 375 settler attacks, contributing to the 2,161 incidents involving Israeli occupation forces. These actions aim to control land by making it economically uninhabitable for Palestinians. Raed Moqidi from the Land Research Center notes that settlers seek to intimidate Palestinians into abandoning their grazing areas and homes by targeting livestock, often under the protection of Israeli forces.

The systematic theft of livestock, especially in communities like Al-Duwaysat, has led to forced migration, with Palestinians losing their means of survival. As settlers escalate their tactics, including imposing fines and confiscations, the pressure on Palestinian families to leave intensifies, facilitating Israel's expansionist goals.
