Since the start of the invasion of the Noor Shams camp in the city of Tulkarem in the West Bank, the Israeli regime has displaced 13,000 Palestinians. The head of the Noor Shams Camp Services Committee reported that Israeli military forces have demolished or burned 211 buildings during their attacks on the camp, forcibly displacing its more than 13,000 residents.
The official noted that it is difficult to provide an accurate inventory of the buildings destroyed by the Israeli regime's offensive, stating that the "occupiers are attempting to turn the camp into an area of ethnic cleansing." Meanwhile, Palestinian media sources report that Israeli bulldozers continue to demolish homes and structures, whose residents were evacuated following the ongoing offensive against the Noor Shams camp.
Zionist military analyst Ron Ben-Yishai recently warned that the occupation army's attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank could trigger a new Palestinian intifada and lead to the recruitment of more fighters by resistance groups. On Saturday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) warned that the Israeli regime's efforts to dismantle the agency will not resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees and could even exacerbate it.
In an interview with an Israeli media outlet, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini emphasized that UNRWA is the backbone of humanitarian operations in Gaza and continues to provide health and education services to Palestinian refugees in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Lazzarini described the Israeli regime's ongoing attacks on UNRWA as "not only an attack on Palestinian refugees and the right of return but also an attack on Palestinian history and identity." He stated, "If UNRWA disappears, the issue of Palestinian refugees will not disappear. Instead, the region will face catastrophic consequences, with hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the occupied territories deprived of access to education and healthcare."
On 28th October 2024, the Israeli Knesset (parliament) passed laws banning UNRWA from operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. The legislation also revoked privileges granted to the agency and prohibited any official contact with it.
Israel has accused UNRWA staff of colluding with Hamas forces, a claim firmly denied by the UN. The United Nations reiterated that UNRWA maintains strict neutrality and remains committed to continuing its work despite the Israeli ban.
