WFP Warns of Catastrophic Hunger Crisis in Gaza as Israel Blocks Aid

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that continued Israeli restrictions on food and humanitarian supplies into Gaza will trigger a catastrophic food security crisis. Abeer Atifa, WFP’s regional spokesperson, stressed that current food stocks are rapidly depleting and will not last long under the ongoing blockade.

Over 80% of Gaza’s population depends on humanitarian aid, while 1.2 million people face severe food insecurity. With crossings closed, hospitals, bakeries, and water desalination plants are struggling to operate due to fuel shortages. Atifa urged the international community to act urgently, warning that the humanitarian situation is on the verge of collapse.

The crisis deepened after Israel blocked aid trucks following the first phase of a ceasefire. The European Union and international organisations have condemned the move, warning of its devastating consequences. Meanwhile, Israeli families of prisoners have criticised Netanyahu’s government for obstructing negotiations and worsening the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
